Feldspar serves as the primary fluxing agent in ceramic and glass formulations, acting as a catalyst to lower the eutectic temperature of the batch. In ceramic production, our Potash Feldspar begins to melt at approximately 1150°C, creating a persistent liquid phase that fills the interstitial spaces between quartz and clay particles.
This process, known as vitrification, is essential for eliminating porosity and creating a dense, waterproof structure. The potash variety specifically contributes to the development of a structural “skeleton” during firing, preventing the slump or deformation of large-scale industrial insulators. In the glass industry, our Soda Feldspar provides the necessary alumina (Al2O3) to improve chemical durability, thermal shock resistance, and inhibition of devitrification. By stabilizing the molten glass, it ensures a smoother forming process and superior clarity in the final product.
